About London Shops
(London, England)
London is a shopper's paradise, home to numerous department stores, specialist shops and markets selling almost everything imaginable.
London Shops: Where to Shop in London
Oxford street has long been a magnet for tourists and its entire length is lined with boutiques, department stores such as Selfridges, music and book shops, bargain basements and popular franchises. Slightly more upmarket is Regent which runs from Oxford Circus, southward to Picadilly Circus and includes the famous Hamley's toy store.
Sandwiched between Oxford Street and Leicester Square are numerous smaller boutiques and specialist shops in Soho, including the once-trendy Carnaby Street, which has replaced its sixties fashion houses with tourist tack.
Other famous stores include Fortnum and Mason and Selfridges. Popular shopping areas are South Kensington and Knightsbridge, Regent Street, Carnaby Street and Oxford Street and King's Road.
Tottenham Court Road is well-known for electronics along its northern end and second-hand book shops towards the south. There are also some legendary markets, such as the weekend Petticoat Lane, Camden Market for world products, Portobello Road for antiques and Spitalfields for crafts.
Many of the most fashionable labels and unique items are found in small boutiques in Kensington, where much of the money is. It is here too, in the Knightsbridge area, that you will find two of the city's most famous department stores, Harrods and Harvey Nichols.
